About me
My name is Solveig (she/her) I am a fully qualified integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. I offer both time-limited and open-ended therapy for adults from any background. I work both online and in-person.
Before becoming a therapist, I have worked for 15 years as a midwife within the NHS, supporting people across a variety of settings. This background has given me an appreciation for the emotional complexities of life transitions, and how important it is to feel heard and supported during vulnerable times in your life.
I have been a volunteer therapist in Sweda — a specialist charity for eating disorders — for the past three years. Working with individuals affected by eating disorders and body image issues has deepened my understanding of the complex relationship between food, body image and emotional regulation.
I am originally from Finland, and I have lived in the UK for the past 26 years. Being an ‘outsider’ in a new culture helped me to shape a rich perspective on the nature of identity, home and the ever-evolving sense of belonging.
My values are rooted in social justice, and I am aware of the impact that society, community, and the natural world have on our mental health and well-being. A key aspect of this is exploring how society and our communities interact with different aspects of our identity — such as gender, sexuality, age, race, culture, and class — and how these influences can shape our overall well-being. I provide a compassionate, affirming space where we can explore the impact of personal and systemic challenges on your wellbeing, whilst honouring your unique experiences.
Qualifications
Certificate in Counselling Skills (Level 4)
MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Level 7) (Distinction) - Degree taught a relational approach integrating Person-centred, Psychodynamic and Gestalt modalities.
Therapy Sessions
Introduction
I understand that finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. That’s why I provide a complimentary 30-minute consultation by phone or online, giving us a chance to connect and explore whether working together feels right for you.
Sessions
If you decide we’re a good fit, I ask for an initial commitment of six weekly sessions, held at the same time each week. Each session lasts 50 minutes and costs £60.
I also offer a limited number of reduced-fee spaces for those on a lower income. Please get in touch via email, if you'd like to explore this option.

Why therapy?
You may be facing a crisis or a particular challenge that led you to seek support, a longing for deeper self-understanding, or a sense that life has lost its meaning.
People come to therapy for a variety of reasons. Some because they are experiencing relationship issues, loneliness, breakups, or loss. Others come for personal development, feeling stuck, powerless or dealing with a major life transition. And some clients want to gain a better understanding of themselves, or develop healthier thought patterns and behaviours.
Therapy is a personal journey, and your reason for seeking it may vary. It's a valuable tool to improve your wellbeing, relationships and overall quality of life.
Self-reflection isn't simple or effortless, and at times, it can be quite painful. My goal is for us to create a trusting connection where we can overcome some of these challenges and leave you with more resilience, self-belief, and clarity. Ultimately the rewards will make the journey worthwhile.
Therapy I offer
I believe that healing starts with connection. I practise therapy in a relational way, meaning the connection between therapist and client is itself a source of insight and potential transformation. While relationships can be a source of wounding, they are fundamentally where we can also heal and grow. I aim to be authentic, compassionate, curious and attuned to your needs, and listen to you without judgement.
I trained in integrative therapy, which adapts elements from various psychotherapeutic models and techniques to best suit the unique needs of each individual client. My training included person-centred, psychodynamic and gestalt approaches — to find out more you can click the links.
I intend to be more than just a neutral observer in therapy, rather an active participant, providing feedback, offering insights, and gently challenging you when needed. Together, we can reflect on your relationship with yourself and those around you and bring awareness to patterns that may be holding you back, helping to deepen your understanding of your experiences. Patterns of behaviour, communication, and emotional responses in relationships — both current and past — can be influenced by early life experiences, such as family dynamics, and can affect how individuals relate to others in their adult life.
I also bring somatic awareness into my work, recognising that our bodies often sense and respond to our emotions and needs before our minds fully catch up. During sessions, I may gently invite you to tune into your body’s felt experience as part of our exploration.
I work from a trauma-informed perspective, acknowledging the lasting impact of trauma and prioritising safety, trust and choice in the therapeutic relationship. I aim to support you to heal at a pace that feels manageable to your own needs.
